This morning, I was off to a rough start. There was a power outage in my area, causing the household eletrical appliances to turn off and on several times. About 10:00 a.m., the power was off steadily for another hour and 48 minutes. I know this because the wall clocks work by batteries, and my cell phone was partially charged, so I could easily see the time.
With that said, I was wondering how I was going to print the handouts for the school visit today. How was I going to fix my hair, now that the curlers aren't working. Wow, that's what you face when you wait until the last minute to do certain things.
The power was back on and I headed for the car. When I arrived at the school, I drove through the parking lot; it was full. I drove around the block and parked on the side of the school. I ended up walking around the entire school building, because I could not find the main entrance. Once inside, I stopped in the office, where a hall pass was given, so I can walk down the hall to Ms. Fretz's 2nd grade class.
The class gave me such a warm welcome. The teacher, Ms. Fretz made me very comfortable. She set the conversation off by explain what a good writer does. She ended with "a good writer doesn't just write and submit." A lot time and effort does go into creating a book. I took over and shared samples of proofs from the books I have written that needed editing. I read Day at the Beach to the class. This title is a book that I wrote about my husband's granddaughter. The class were attentative listeners, and asked a lot of great questions.
Well at the end, I gave Ms. Fretz handouts for the class and presented them with a Good Listener Award.
